Annex A: Technical Approach |
Background and Project Aims
Within the performing arts sector, creating a live performance from the initial script, requires a large number of diverse activities (Figure 1), involving many different creative, management, decision-making and production skills. Such is the nature of audiences and critics within this sector that failure to undertake even one of these activities could lead to commercial failure for the whole production. It is essential, therefore, that a high level of task planning and control needs to take place and that the output from creative processes can be designed and planned in detail and measured in terms of their feasibility and commericial effects. Such levels of planning and control are made difficult due to the creative and iterative, and hence time varying, nature of many of these tasks. The aim of this project, therefore, is to develop advanced technology tools that will enable step changes to be made in the efficiency and effectiveness with which design and production activities can take place leading to significantly reduced costs and ‘page-to-stage’ production lead times.
