In order to provide effective support for determining the cost efficiency of new aerospace products and manufacturing processes, significant improvements need to occur in the cost model development process both from "in-company" and "supply chain" perspectives. Such an improvement can be achieved by providing cost engineers with coherent cost model development processes that make use of "best practice" data identification, collection, analysis and decision making tools. There are also issues concerning cost model availability within a manufacturing organisation and of maintaining the confidence of cost engineers in model's costing effectiveness.
